01 · Why it matters

Why your web application needs penetration testing

Your web application is your most exposed system on the internet, and often the first thing an attacker targets. Web application penetration testing finds the vulnerabilities before someone else exploits them.

Your most exposed asset

Anyone on the internet can reach your web application, and a single flaw in login or access control can expose all of your customers' data.

Regulatory requirements

We document the penetration test report in line with NCA ECC (Essential Cybersecurity Controls) and SAMA CSF, helping you evidence that you meet their penetration-testing requirements.

Customer and partner trust

Many customers and partners ask for an independent penetration test before they sign or integrate, and a clear report answers their questions directly.

What tools miss

Business-logic flaws and privilege escalation do not show up in an automated scan; a human tester who understands how your application works finds them.

02 · Scope

What our web application penetration testing covers

We cover the main classes of web application vulnerabilities, including the OWASP Top 10 categories, from authentication to business logic, with specific checks on every flow and every role.

01

Authentication and session management

We test login, MFA, password reset, and JWT, OAuth and SSO flows. We look for bypassed verification steps, weak validation of token signatures and expiry, reusable reset tokens, missing protection against password guessing, and sessions that stay valid after logout or a password change.

02

Access control and privilege escalation

We check whether a normal user can reach another user's data by changing identifiers (IDOR), raise their privileges to admin, or run admin functions they are not authorized for, testing every role against the others.

03

Multi-tenant isolation

In applications that serve more than one organization, we test whether a user in one organization can reach another organization's data through identifiers, sharing links, exports or search results.

04

Business-logic flaws

We exercise checkout, payment, coupon and workflow paths for price or quantity tampering, skipped mandatory steps, coupon reuse, repeated operations, accepted negative values, and race conditions when requests are sent concurrently.

05

Injection: SQLi, command, SSTI

We examine inputs that reach the database, the operating system or the template engine, looking for SQL injection, OS command injection and server-side template injection (SSTI), including cases where the result does not appear directly in the response.

06

XSS and browser-side issues

We look for cross-site scripting (XSS) in all its forms (stored, reflected and DOM-based), weak CSRF protection, and permissive CORS settings that may let other sites read a user's data.

07

SSRF and file handling

We test whether the server can be made to send requests on an attacker's behalf to resources it should not reach (SSRF), whether it accepts dangerous file uploads, and whether it allows downloads outside the permitted path (path traversal).

08

Sensitive data exposure and security configuration

We review excess sensitive data in responses, error messages that reveal technical internals, security headers, cookie attributes, and files or pages exposed by mistake.

03 · Method

How we run web application penetration tests

Reliant is a Saudi penetration-testing-as-a-service (PTaaS) platform based in Riyadh and licensed by the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA). Testing is fully manual, run by human researchers with a real-attacker mindset, and we never ship automated scanner output. We are guided by OWASP Top 10, OWASP API Security Top 10 and PTES, and document the report in line with NCA ECC and SAMA CSF. Every finding is reviewed, verified and reproduced before delivery.

04 · How it works

Web application penetration testing, from first contact to retest

  1. 01

    Share your requirements

Share your requirements or book a 30-minute consultation with a lead penetration tester to define the target application and its user roles.

  2. 02

    Create the program

Your company creates a program on the platform that sets in-scope and out-of-scope assets, rules of engagement (testing windows, forbidden techniques such as DoS, rate limits, escalation channels), and a suggested budget.

  3. 03

    Review and agreement

Reliant reviews the scope and agrees the budget with you. The program runs under Reliant's standard Engagement Agreement, or your own contract once we accept it, and an NDA is signed before any testing begins.

  4. 04

    Testing and triage

The assigned researchers start testing and Reliant triages every submission. Any approved Critical or High finding can be sent to you immediately, ahead of the report.

  5. 05

    Report and discussion

We deliver the report with every approved finding; you discuss each finding with us through comments, and we may ask for your view on some of them through Company review.

  6. 06

    Free retest

After you fix, you request a free retest while the program is in its report or retest stage, and you get the result as soon as the check is done.

05 · Deliverables

What you receive from a web application penetration test

  • A stable reference for every finding, in RLT-000123 format
  • A CVSS score for each finding
  • A clear description of each finding and its business impact
  • Step-by-step reproduction (proof of concept) with supporting evidence
  • Practical remediation guidance for each finding
  • All results in your client dashboard, plus an auditable PDF report from the report stage or on request
  • Free retests until the finding truly closes
06 · Pricing

You pay only on outcome

You pay only if Reliant confirms at least one Critical or High finding; the fee is then the program's agreed budget, one amount for the whole engagement, and the invoice is issued automatically with the report. The budget depends on scope size, testing depth and timeline, and there is no minimum engagement: a single application on a small scope is priced the same way.

  • No Critical or High finding confirmed? The invoice is zero, and the test and its report are delivered free.
  • When one is confirmed: one amount, the agreed budget, with no per-finding charge and no hidden fees.
  • Duplicate, invalid or out-of-scope reports are never billed.
07 · FAQ

Web application penetration testing FAQ

How is web application penetration testing different from an automated scan?
An automated scan runs a tool that looks for known patterns and often returns a list full of false positives. Our testing is manual: a human researcher learns your application's logic and tests access control between roles and the business flows tools never reach, such as price tampering or reaching another user's data. Every finding is verified and reproduced before we deliver it.
Do you test on production or on staging?
We test the environment agreed in the scope. A staging environment that mirrors production is the best option to avoid any impact on users. If testing is on production, we agree time windows, testing limits and immediate escalation channels in advance in the rules of engagement, and we test the way a real attacker would without disrupting your services.
Do you test while logged in, and what do you need from us?
Yes. Many serious vulnerabilities only appear after login. We ask for the test-environment URL, test accounts for each role (user, admin and others), ideally at least two accounts per role so we can test access between users, and any API documentation you have. The clearer the access, the deeper the test.
How long does a web application penetration test take?
It depends on the size of the scope and the depth of testing. Most engagements are completed within 5 to 10 working days, and we agree the timeline when we set the scope.
What if you don't find a Critical or High finding?
You pay nothing. The invoice is zero, the test and its report are delivered free, and the report includes every lower-severity finding we approved, with guidance to fix it.
Does web application penetration testing cover the APIs the app calls?
Yes. A modern web application relies on backend APIs, and we test them as part of the web application test when they are in scope. If you have standalone APIs (REST or GraphQL), we offer API penetration testing as a separate service.
How do you keep our data and test results confidential?
Test results and reports are your confidential information and become your property, and researchers may not disclose them. An NDA is signed before any testing begins.
